Devon’s Louis Ridout has won the Bowls England Men’s National Singles Championship, sponsored by Avonmore Associates.

Bowls Devon Website

The new website has been operating for about 4 weeks and, despite some early hiccups, is now stable across all platforms.

Most of the features have been carried forward from the old website, albeit in new format. However, there are some new (or updated) features which I have highlighted below.

Searching.

There are 2 search systems, both in the top right-hand corner of the Home page. They are:

  • General Search – enter any word, name phrase etc. for search of the whole website (but see also the “Where Is It” feature below).
  • Club Search – enter the name of the Club in the search box (under the heading “Club Search”) and click “Find Clubs”. Or alternatively by clicking “View Map” a map of Devon is shown with all clubs shown by a marker. If you click a marker the name of the Club is revealed, and if then you click the name you will be linked to the appropriate Club page.
  • Forthcoming Events.
  • The next 5 events on the Home page are now colour coded to differentiate between men’s matches, ladies matched, mixed matches and County Management events; these events (and colour codes) are taken from the “Calendar”.
  • Bowls England Link.
  • On the right-hand side of the Home page there is a direct link to the “National Events Portal”.
  • News Items.
  • The 5 most recent news events are shown in a larger, boxed format on the Home page and each can be expanded by clicking “Read More”. These boxes are now capable of adding photographs and videos. More events can be seen by clicking “News” on the main menu; on this News page you can also access archived news items making available all news items that have ever been posted on the website.
  • Quick Access.
  • There is now a feature that allows simpler &faster access directly to particular information on the website. This is called “Where Is It” and is on the main menu. It is in effect an alphabetic search – for instance by clicking on B you can locate items on the website beginning with a B (ie Badged Players). Any suggestions for adding to the list should be sent to the website manager.
  • Special Events.
  • On the right-hand side of the Home page, below the “Forthcoming Events” box, is an area for adding special events. This could include urgent news items, advertisements (e.g. for competitions, county events, job vacancies in Bowls Devon etc.), and special features.
  • Items could come from, for example,
    • The Officers of Bowls Devon
    • Patrons
    • Safeguarding Officers
    • Bowls Development
    • Presidents, and possibly
    • Sections.

Club Pages.

  • On the right-hand side of Club pages, below “Club Information”, there is a similar area for Clubs to use, again to advertise events, competitions etc. It is possible to insert photographs, videos etc. in this area.
  • Note – all information in the areas referred to as “Special Events” & “Club Pages” would have to be entered through the Website Manager or David Mercer our Publicity and Web Site Co-ordinator

BOWLS INTERNATIONAL LAUNCH NEW WEBSITE

Bowls International has launched a brand new website, designed to be a go-to place for bowlers around the world.

The monthly magazine, which is in its 37th year, has seen a new direction under current editor Sian Honnor. It offers news, reviews, debates, features and coaching tips and is not afraid to highlight current issues within the bowls world.

The Bowls International team, which includes some of the sport’s biggest and most influential names, prides itself on providing informative, entertaining and instructive articles that you will not find elsewhere.

The website- www.bowlsinternational.com- has been designed to complement the fresh, uncluttered feel of the magazine.

As well as news about the sport from around the world, the website will offer unique content in terms of features and video plus greencraft articles and photo galleries.

There is also a ‘Meet the Team’ section to put faces to names.

Sian said: “As the online presence of Bowls International continues to grow, I felt that the new website should align with the magazine- the result is a clean and easy to navigate site which hopefully bowlers will return to again and again.”

Bowls International is published by Oyster Media Group Ltd.
