Marldon 'A'

June 7th - Marldon's third game, away at Shaldon, where we were unfortunately short of a few of our regular 'A' team players. for various reasons.

Final Score Marldon 42-Shaldon 74

Colin Mills, Colin Whiley and Alan Parker were nip and tuck from the start and at the 12th end were 10- 7 up, but then dropped a 3 to level the scores. Shaldon managed to win three of the last four ends for a narrow 14-11 win.

Barry Hodges, Tony Mason and Doug Potter had a hard battle against their Shaldon opponents and apart from picking up a four on the 12th end only managed 6 singles, going down 10-21.

Gordon Page, Ray O'Brien and Shaun O Leary also found the opponents too good, only winnning 5 of the 18 ends for a heavy 7-24 defeat.

Bob Tame, Ray Sandercock and Alan Drayton started well taking a five shot lead, before a disastrous ninth end saw them drop a six to fall one behind. The rest of the game was very even and was tied 14-14 at 17 ends to create a last end decider. Marldon held shot for a while in the decider until a wide Shaldon wood diverted another of their woods in onto the jack where it remained to give Shaldon a one shot win, 15-14.

League points Shaldon 14 Marldon 0.

June 4th - Marldon's second game at home to Torquay, who brought their best form and took the overall win by winning on three of the four rinks.

League game points Marldon 2 - Torquay 12

June 2nd - Marldon 'A' had their first game of the season when four rinks of triples went to play at Kings BC.

Peter Dunkley, Ed Sosnowski and Alan Parker were involved in a close game, being 8-5 up before Kings scored 8 shots in three ends to take a 13-8 lead. Marldon managed to claw back 4 of the 6 shots required to win but lost 12-15.

John Gibbons, Tony Mason and Doug Potter won 10 ends to 8 in their game but scored higher on the winning ends for a comfortable 20-9 win.

Grahm Dowell, Shaun O'Leary and Graham Walton raced into a 16-4 win helped along by scoring an 8 (not quite a 'hot shot' in triples) on the 10th end. Kings did not give up and won the last 5 ends of the game but it was not enough and Marldon won 18-14.

Bob Tame, Ray Sandercock and Alan Drayton struggled to make any progress against consistently accurate King's players and lost 13-23. However this rink finished last, and the two shots they scored on last end proved to be the shots required to create the overall win for Marldon.

Overall Score Marldon 63 - Kings 61, with two winning rinks. A good result against Kings BC.
