MDL Results and Tables 2021


The MDL organisers decided to cancel the league for 2021 but in its place some clubs are arranging friendly games to be played on a league basis.

Marldon 'A' will be in one league consisting of the premier league teams who wished to play league games this season, and Marldon B will take part in the Buckfastleigh Centenary Trophy League. Results will appear here when known.

Marldon 'A'

August 2nd - Marldon's 8th game, home to Kings BC.

Marldon had a good evening, winning on three of the four rinks with an overall score of 76-51


July 30th - Marldon's seventh game, away at Torquay

John Gibbons, Tony Mason and Martin Rolfe played a very tight game and had levelled the scores at 12 all after 17 ends before Torquay took a 1 on the final end to win 13-12 (0 points)

Bob Tame, Ray Sandercock and Peter Dunkley were also neck and neck and were one shot up when disaster struck and Torquay picked up a 5 on the 14th end. The last four ends were shared giving Torquay a 17-13 win (0 points).

Colin Mills, Ed Sosnowski and Alan Parker were level with torquay at 10 all after 12 ends but then dropped a 6 and a 4 in next two ends to find themselves 10 shots behind. The last 4 ends were shared giving Torquay a 23-13 win (0 points)

Ray o'Brien, Graham Dowell and Graham Walton dropped 2 4s and a 2 but replied with two 2's and a 4 to be 8-10 down but only scored 1 against 6 on the next 4 ends to go 9-16, seven shots behind after 10 ends. The second half was fairly even, but Marldon only recovered one of the 7 shot deficit to lose 16-22. 0 points for Marldon and another match which turned on the results of just a few ends across the four triples.

Overall result: Torquay 75 - Marldon 54.


July 8th - Marldon's sixth game, Home to TCBC.

John Gibbons, Tony Mason and Doug Potter won a closely contested game against a triple that included former members Jim Pettigrew and Kevan Davey. 13-11 to Marldon.

Lee James, Bob Tame and Ray Sandercock picked up a lead in the early stages with a 5 on the 8th end helping them to be 11 -10 up at the tea break against a triple that included former Marldon players, 2015 Mens Champion Steve Brilli and three times mens singles finalist Andy Pearson. Unfortunately Marldon restarted slowly after tea, dropping a 5 and a 3 only picking up 1 in the next three ends, to eventually lose by 6 shots, 15-21.

Shaun O'Leary, Graham Dowell and Graham Walton had a difficult time against a triple that included former member Gary Routledge, falling behind from early in the game. Having recovered to be only 6 shots behind on the penultimate end, they were then unfortunate to drop a 7 on final end to go down with score 10-23.

Colin Mills, Ed Sosnowski and Alan Parker had a better time, accurate bowling from Colin, backed up by Ed and Alan won them 11 of the 18 ends for a final score of 18-8 to Marldon.

Overall result Marldon 56 – TCBC 63.

19th August 2021 - Marldon 55 Abbrook Park 75

Marldon won on two of the four rinks tonight but lost overall Points Marldon 4 - Abbrook Park 6.


17th August 2021 - Marldon 71 - Newton Abbot 58

Marldon won on two rinks and drew on the third, losing on only one.Points Marldon 7 - Newton Abbot 3.


13th August 2021 - Bitton Park 86 Marldon 58

Marldon only managed a draw on one rink, losing on the other three.Points Bitton Park 9 - Marldon 1.


6th August 2021 - Totnes 71 Marldon 55

Marldon won on two of the four rinks tonight but lost overall Points Marldon 4 - Totnes 6.


31st July 2021 - Marldon 58 Bitton Park 87

Only one winning rink tonight, Points Marldon 2 - Bitton Park 8.

22nd July 2021 - Not a great night for the B Team tonight in the Buckfastleigh Centenary Trophy in the away fixture v Newton Abbot. Marldon lost 9 - 1. Our only point coming from the Terence Bowles rink. The other 3 rinks of Ray O'Brien, Martin Rolfe & Graham Walton losing quite heavily.

The final score being Newton Abbot 92 (9) Marldon 50 (1) Hopefully we will do better in the next BCT fixture when we play Bitton Park at home on the 31st July.....
