The club was founded in 1987, but until 1995 when we acquired our own green, all matches were played away and the longstanding joke we tell touring sides is that we were once unbeaten at home for 8 years!!!!

2020 was the 25th Anniversary of the opening of our green. A number of special events had been arranged to mark the occasion but these had to be postponed due to COVID until 2021. Click here for a Newspaper report on the opening of the green in 1995.
There are pictures of the green and club being build in our Gallery, have a look at "Memory Lane".

The club is affiliated to Bowls England (Affil No. 08057) and Bowls Devon. Our men normally play in the Mid Devon League, and the Over 55's Wednesday Morning Triples League and our ladies in the South Devon Ladies Bowling League. We also normally enter two teams in the Thursday Morning Riviera Mixed Triples League.

Our club colours are green, red and gold, both the men and ladies play in club coloured shirts with black below the waist for all Club representative games. See our current dress code in the Club Rules.

We normally hold an annual 'Marldon Fours' Tournament which is an invitational tournament to which most clubs in the area are invited to send teams. It is usually (weather permitting) a very successful event played in August each year with cash prizes and a trophy for the winning rink.

In 2024 we are pleased to have received sponsorship from Marldon Marquees, Brewers Decorator Centres, Paignton Flat Roofing, Riviera Garage Doors, & Churston External Cleaning. We are always pleased to accept new sponsorship. Click the link for details Sponsorship information

See our Facilities page for more details of what we can offer, or the membership section below if you are considering joining us.

We play many fixtures in the Summer. In addition to our league games we play home and away friendly matches against Clubs from Torquay, Paignton, Newton Abbot, Totnes, Brixham and the wider Devon area. We are also pleased to welcome touring sides. See our Bowls tours page

During the Winter we play in a Shortmat League and have shortmat sessions in our Village Hall, and also play friendly games at the local indoor bowling centres which includes the Torbay Leisure Hotels, Torquay United and Torbay Indoor Bowling Assoc. Click here for details of Shortmat Bowls

Being a Member of Marldon Bowling Club

Membership currently stands at around 56 men, 3 junior and 29 lady playing members, with a further 30 social members.

We are always pleased to welcome new members, whether new to bowls or experienced players. We also welcome non-playing members as we do have a social side to our club, particularly in the winter.

NEW to BOWLS? If you have never tried the game before, contact our secretary (Maureen) or treasurer (Ray) who is also a qualified bowling coach, and we will give you a call to explain how to start. All you need is a pair of flat bottomed shoes, we can loan everything else so you can try it out.

New bowlers get free coaching with four weeks free membership followed by special membership rates for their first season at our club.

For the 2024 summer season we will once again be running "try bowls" coaching sessions, for newcomers to the game, every Sunday at 10am, starting on April 28th 2024. More info

Bowlers moving from other clubs get reduced rates in their first year if they join part way through the season.

In addition to the summer fixtures, Full Members can also play during the Winter in leagues and in friendly games at Torbay Leisure Hotels, Torquay United and Torbay Area Indoor Bowls Association Oldway. (subject to these games being on fixture list)

We also have Shortmat sessions each Wednesday afternoon from October to April in Marldon Village Hall.

We pride ourselves that all Club Members actively support the Club by carrying out the necessary day to day tasks including green maintenance & cleaning duties, the all important refreshments after 10 ends (tea duties), and the even more important manning of the Bar!

We are entirely self funding and certain members take responsibility for providing a perfect surface for bowling on, whilst others use their skills to ensure our Club is maintained and run to a high standard.

Each year we support a charity selected by our President. Our incoming President, Ray O'Brien, for the 2024 season has chosen Play Torbay as his charity, a charity that aims to improve the play facilities available for local children.

Why not come and join us, you will be made very welcome. Contact Our Secretary, Maureen Morgan, details on Contact Us page.
